Permiso - ARETUSA FILMS

Permiso

A woman sets out to portray her partner, but his initial reluctance prompts her to explore the delicate process of building the trust required to be filmed. Through images that capture everyday moments and dialogue with photographic portraits from the past, the film reflects on how the creation of images has played a key role in shaping their relationship—one marked by both complicity and differences. An intimate portrait of connection, memory, discord, and the shared complicity behind the camera.

Framing a seemingly inconsequential anecdote, Permiso reflects on the limits of capturing the most immediate reality. The act of listening to and looking at a loved one fragments into a thousand complicities—feigned, playful, agreed-upon, stolen. A survival pact that perhaps paraphrases philosopher Stanley Cavell: filming ourselves... can it make us better? A new and incisive essay on our relationship with images.
